How to Vote in Contra Costa County

Your Voice Matters. Here’s How to Make It Heard.

This year, things are a bit different for Richmond voters. A primary municipal election will be held on June 2, 2026, to determine the next city councilmember for District 4. If a candidate secures a majority, 50% or more, of the total votes cast, they win the race. If no candidate receives a majority, a runoff will be held.

What Richmond Voters Need to Know

Voting by mail? Make sure you turn in your ballot well before the vote-by-mail deadline. The USPS recently issued a new rule that changes the postmark date. The postmark date is now defined as the date when a machine processes your ballot, not the date it was physically received.

Conveniently, the City of Richmond has a permanent vote-by-mail box at City Hall: 450 Civic Center Plaza. For this year’s primary election on June 2, 2026, the last day you can register to vote is May 18, 2026.

The General Election is on November 3, 2026. The last day to register for that is October 19, 2026.
