I’m Jamin Pursell, a longtime May Valley resident who’s called Richmond home since 2010. I live here with my husband and our pets, and like many Richmond families, I know the value of hard work and community support. I was born in Alaska and raised in California by a single mother who taught me the importance of perseverance, hard work, and lending a hand where it’s needed.

My education began in the California community college system and continued at Cal State East Bay, where I earned a degree in Political Science and Philosophy. I later completed a Master of Science in Law at McGeorge School of Law. That foundation in policy and law has guided my approach to solving problems with common sense, accountability, and collaboration.

Over the past decade, I’ve served our community in various leadership roles, including the May Valley Neighborhood Council, El Sobrante Valley Planning and Zoning Committee, Contra Costa Hazardous Materials Commission, and the Fish and Wildlife Committee. I’ve also worked closely with environmental organizations, like the Sierra Club, to protect our shoreline and promote responsible development.

As a small business owner and artist, I understand the challenges that local entrepreneurs face, such as navigating permits and building community partnerships. My work focuses on identifying practical solutions to strengthen our neighborhoods, support local small businesses, and enhance the responsiveness of local government to its residents.

Richmond deserves thoughtful, balanced leadership focused on results. I’m running to bring people together, improve city services, and keep Richmond a safe and vibrant place to live, work, and grow.
